WHEN IT ALL CHANGED

“So what did you do, huh?” Zara asked me on the way to “The Principal’s Office.”
“That is my question, actually,” I told Zara.
Soon, we were up in the second floor corridor. “That’s how far I could help you. Best of luck!” Zara left without anymore words.
I took a deep breath and knocked on the door in front of me. “May I come in, sir?”
“Is that you, Shreya?”
“Yes, sir.”
“Oh, come in my girl.”
I entered the room, not knowing what to say, because I had not expected such a jolly welcome.
“You wanted to see me, sir.” I said, after gaining a bit of courage by the reception.
“I believe this is yours, my dear,” He held up my diary.
“Where did you find it, sir? I thought it was in my bag.”
“Well, I found it on the bench in the corridor.” A strange man told me. Or maybe it was not really a man; he looked not a day older than me.
“Mr Ron, here, needs to speak to you, I guess.”
“Oh, hello.”
“Hi,” said Mr Ron, “Are these photos yours?” and he held out my photos—the ones I had put in my diary.

“Yes, of course.”
“Where did take them? I mean, which studio?”
“Studio? I took them myself, at my home.”
“See, I told you, she is so talented. And her grades are always top. She is so totally the beauty with the brains!”
“Excuse me, but what exactly are you talking about?”
“Well, I suppose, you would better explain it, Mr Ron.”
“Alright then, Shreya, do you know who I am?”
“Yes, you are Mr Ron.”
“Do you know my full name?”
“Umm, not really.”
“Well, I am Ronak Singhania, son of Mr R J Singhania, the owner of Lux, the soap brand. We have now launched a new campaign, looking for tomorrow’s girl today. It is basically for the girls aged 13-19 and we want to find not the beauty queen, but the beauty with the brains. We even put posters in your school today, and wanted girls to submit their pictures to us. But, to tell the truth, your pictures have impressed me so much that I wish to select you as our top contestant, if you agree to participate, of course. You know what; I would say you should, for I have seen the potentials in you to take you to the sky. You are an inborn star, and you deserve to be able to let your qualities fly. Trust me, you will succeed.”
I was dumb-founded. All this was a mistake. I can’t be it. Was this what the twosome was so excited about? But isn’t it something for their types? What would Liya say about it? What would mom and dad say? Should I say yes? Am I really going to be famous soon? But then again, wasn’t that exactly my horoscope said?

Today’s Pisces Horoscope:  Unexpected changes will come in your way, with unknown people influencing your decisions. Fame and beauty will follow, so would victory. Your inner daring feeling would ask you to do something too bold, but don’t listen to it as major changes will follow if you do so.
Lucky time of the day: 11:30

I looked up at the big clock on the wall. Exactly 11:30. So is this horoscope thing honestly true? My inner instincts were saying “what rubbish.” I mean, I am not the only person who’s a Pisces. In fact, as studies show, atleast eight people were born at the exact moment as I am. So atleast eight people should be having the same fortune as me. Nah! That’s all stupidity
But, then again, what if it was true? Suddenly, a thought jumped in my mind, making me say:
“Mr Ron, I know how much you loved my photos, but, my parents, you see, would never accept this. So best of luck, I am sure you will find great participants in our school. It’s so sad it couldn’t be me, but trust me people here are all fab. You can try my friend, Li—
“Well, Shreya dear, why don’t we ask your parents about how they feel. They are right here.”
My eyes stormed to the direction of the tiny lounge in his room. Its teak door opened and out came my family. Dad had a broad smile on his face.
“We are so proud.” My mom said this with an overjoyed smile.
Thoughts chased each other in my head. Was this what you called brain-storming? I would call this brain-tornado(ing) or brain-hurricane(ing). I was feeling dizzy. I closed my eyes. I was about to faint. Help!

Something grabbed my legs. Opening my eyes, I saw her with her innocent smile and big eyes.
“I love you, sis.”
The last thing I needed.

Something New

“OMG!”
“Can you believe it?”
“No!”
“OMG!”

“Oh, what’s gone wrong this time with those two?” Liya asked me. For those who don’t know, the mentioned two are no other than Sonali and Rupali, the two most irritating people in school. The type who can wake up three hours earlier to get their hair straightened, and wouldn’t even wish to be in a fatal accident without makeup in case they are pictured by some famous newspaper (which would be the actual cause for which they would love to be in an accident!) They are crazy for fame, and can do anything to be famous and popular (so far anything means cheerleading, trying to sing, dance, trying to act, model, and the latest trying to compete in television reality shows.)  What I don’t understand is why they wish to be popular as they already are. Everyone at school wants to get a chance to be their friend or atleast acquaintance, except for me and Liya. We are, as Liya tells, a bit deeper than to wish to be friends with Miss Fake and Miss Cake (on makeup)!

“Must have finally found a show to be in,” I told Liya.
“So we are really gonna have some fakeness-free time at school!” Liya and I snickered at this so true thing. Unfortunately for us, the words flew straight into ears of the twin-trouble.

“No wonder you have no idea about it. You wouldn’t probably even be able to send your photos!” Sonali said, her usual evil smile on her face.

“Well, we couldn’t bother less!” I told her defiantly. “You enjoy caking on your makeup to look fake. We are just fine as we are!”

And I and Liya walked off, without giving them a second look. And soon, I was back with my diary.

Right on the cue, Liya appeared out of nowhere.
“Oh, you are on with the diary, good; let me see.”
“Liya, do you need to? I am doing fine without help” (please don’t let her see what I just wrote, please!)
Said too late! Liya already had my diary in her hand, and had opened it to my introduction. Think Shreya, quick! Before it is too late.
“Good, I like it.” Liya told me.

“Oh, I am planning to use   this photo of mine here, you know.”

“Yeah, that would be good. Oh, I remember now, I need to find more information on the show of the twosome. I’d better go.” And she left.

And after thanking God, I put my photos in my diary, and left for class.

Is it really me or are geography classes usually this boring?
It wouldn’t have been this boring if I didn’t need to listen to S&R discuss their plans for their show, and Liya trying to find out where to send the photos to. You see, Liya had found us seats just behind them, in order to spy. I couldn’t isolate Liya, but to tell the truth, I was not one tiny bit interested in it. I would have rather loved to think of the cute Auzzie cricketers instead and debate with Liya who was the best of the lot. But, unfortunately for me, Liya was busy with something so useless now… Even geography miss had decided to torment me more with her irritatingly boring lectures on the difference between nomadic herding and animal-raising, which precisely had no differences at all. If I didn’t need to take notes, I would have definitely allowed myself to sleep, but even that was not possible now…
And then something happened that truly pulled the ground from beneath my feet and the sky off my head…
Zara entered the classroom to the utter annoyance of geography miss.
But before miss could express this, Zara spoke:

“Miss, Shreya T is asked to meet the principal at this moment. I am to fetch her.”

Superstar Diaries: Number One Star

Me And My World

I stared at what I had just written; thinking if one could really begin a journal with something dumber. It was not my own idea to write up my daily accounts. But my best friend Liya wouldn’t take no for an answer. She loves to write diaries as it is a very useful way of letting your feelings out to someone, or rather something non-judgemnetive. Unfortunately, my diary was shouting “what rubbish” to me.
Just as I was doing this, someone gave me a little push on my left shoulder.
“Liya!”
“So you are working on the diary, ya. Come let me have look.” All this from my best friend, at our first meeting after the weekend, and that too without so much even as a hi.
“Hi Shrey, how are you? How was your weekend?” I replied sarcastically.
“Oh, I thought I could find that out from your diary. You have written about your weekend, haven’t you?” And with no prompting, whatsoever, she picked up my diary.
I have a bad feeling that all her insistence on making me write a journal was all a result of that stupid quiz we took. It said that I didn’t share my life with her. So now she is doing her best to get the information about me.
By now, Liya had finished reading the only diary entry I had made. With a look of sympathy, she said:
“Here read mine for some ideas.”

I did exactly what she said:

I was practically stunned. This was not a diary. It was a proper journal. I felt a pang of respect for my friend as I continued to stare at her diary.

“It doesn’t need to be like an essay all the time.” Liya told me. “Try looking at this.”

“See it doesn’t need to be perfect,” Liya told me. “Its all just what you feel. Now add in your feelings. Come on. And let me know when you are done, so that I can read it.”  With these words, Liya walked off to the restrooms.
So let’s just begin again, ok?

And just as I was getting into the mood of writing, the bell for the assembly went off.
That’s the girl I started as…that’s the girl I am, until something new happened…
New?
A life changer!

  2. hesitate, then think about your friend's bad day and say yes, promising to leave early, though you end up staying all night, and have a faint aching in your head afterwards.
  3. refuse directly! you know you cant manage it and you don't have to be there everytime. instead call friends home for a nice little pamper session, soft and subtle.
  4. promise to be there, and appear 2 hours late. dance your heels off, give lots of autographs, take snaps, have a life true to your rock-chick image. get sick, and postponed the mega-shoot till next week...what fun is being a celeb if you have to work your arse off for others?
  • what cant you live without?
  1. laptop, blackberry, personal assistants! you love social networking, you love being famous, you love TECHNOLOGY!!

  • You just got a message  on your cell informing you that your favourite car is being hijacked. how do you respond to this  sat nav security message?
  1. Jump out of the house, get your fastest motorbike, rush to the spot marked and fight single-handed to save your poor old driver.
  2. take your watchman, etc with you but make sure you leave before your friend can join in. its your car, and you don't want your friend to be hurt because of you.
  3. call your driver and tell him to let go. a life is more important than a car.
