Something New

“OMG!”
“Can you believe it?”
“No!”
“OMG!”

“Oh, what’s gone wrong this time with those two?” Liya asked me. For those who don’t know, the mentioned two are no other than Sonali and Rupali, the two most irritating people in school. The type who can wake up three hours earlier to get their hair straightened, and wouldn’t even wish to be in a fatal accident without makeup in case they are pictured by some famous newspaper (which would be the actual cause for which they would love to be in an accident!) They are crazy for fame, and can do anything to be famous and popular (so far anything means cheerleading, trying to sing, dance, trying to act, model, and the latest trying to compete in television reality shows.)  What I don’t understand is why they wish to be popular as they already are. Everyone at school wants to get a chance to be their friend or atleast acquaintance, except for me and Liya. We are, as Liya tells, a bit deeper than to wish to be friends with Miss Fake and Miss Cake (on makeup)!

“Must have finally found a show to be in,” I told Liya.
“So we are really gonna have some fakeness-free time at school!” Liya and I snickered at this so true thing. Unfortunately for us, the words flew straight into ears of the twin-trouble.

“No wonder you have no idea about it. You wouldn’t probably even be able to send your photos!” Sonali said, her usual evil smile on her face.

“Well, we couldn’t bother less!” I told her defiantly. “You enjoy caking on your makeup to look fake. We are just fine as we are!”

And I and Liya walked off, without giving them a second look. And soon, I was back with my diary.

Right on the cue, Liya appeared out of nowhere.
“Oh, you are on with the diary, good; let me see.”
“Liya, do you need to? I am doing fine without help” (please don’t let her see what I just wrote, please!)
Said too late! Liya already had my diary in her hand, and had opened it to my introduction. Think Shreya, quick! Before it is too late.
“Good, I like it.” Liya told me.

“Oh, I am planning to use   this photo of mine here, you know.”

“Yeah, that would be good. Oh, I remember now, I need to find more information on the show of the twosome. I’d better go.” And she left.

And after thanking God, I put my photos in my diary, and left for class.

Is it really me or are geography classes usually this boring?
It wouldn’t have been this boring if I didn’t need to listen to S&R discuss their plans for their show, and Liya trying to find out where to send the photos to. You see, Liya had found us seats just behind them, in order to spy. I couldn’t isolate Liya, but to tell the truth, I was not one tiny bit interested in it. I would have rather loved to think of the cute Auzzie cricketers instead and debate with Liya who was the best of the lot. But, unfortunately for me, Liya was busy with something so useless now… Even geography miss had decided to torment me more with her irritatingly boring lectures on the difference between nomadic herding and animal-raising, which precisely had no differences at all. If I didn’t need to take notes, I would have definitely allowed myself to sleep, but even that was not possible now…
And then something happened that truly pulled the ground from beneath my feet and the sky off my head…
Zara entered the classroom to the utter annoyance of geography miss.
But before miss could express this, Zara spoke:

“Miss, Shreya T is asked to meet the principal at this moment. I am to fetch her.”
